5 Eye Care Tips

From the moment we wake up and open our eyes till the time we bid the day adieu and go to dream-land, our eyes help us to admire the scenic beauty of nature, our loved ones and information. The gift of vision is one of the most important thing for any of us to survive. But are we taking care of this gift? Well, looking at the statistics I would disappointingly have to say no. Despite eyesight being the most treasured of senses, we don’t often take the required steps for protecting our eyes from weakening, injuries or diseases. So, here I am to give you a wake up call to start taking care of them now before it’s too late!

Here are a few tips for a safe and healthy eye care regime:

  1. Visit your eye specialist regularly.

A regular eye-checkup is important for people of all ages. Even if you feel you can see everything clearly and there is no problem with you whatsoever, there is no harm in getting regularly checked because there are some eye diseases like glaucoma which aren’t felt but can only be diagnosed by an eye-specialist. An early diagnoses of even a slight change of your eye health can limit any further problems and can help prevent vision loss or age related eye diseases.

  1. Eye protection

You should know that the sun’s UV rays are harmful to the eyes and can lead to diseases like cataract and macular-degeneration. Hence, you should always wear sunglasses while you’re out in the sun. If you work with airborne or hazardous wear safety goggles to prevent eye injuries. Also, do wear protective eye wear while playing sports.

  1. Eat healthy

Health care and food always goes hand in hand. Nutrients such as omega 3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc and vitamin C & E must be consumed to maintain proper eye-health. These help to ward of eye problems such as cataract, macular degeneration etc. Fruits and vegetables are packed with antioxidants which also contribute in the process.

  1. Quit smoking

We all know that smoking is a very bad addiction. It is the catalyst of many diseases including cataract, macular degeneration, optic nerve damage etc. so, I would recommend you to stop smoking and take a hold of your life to remain healthy.

  1. Don’t strain your eyes

Staring at your televisions, computer screens, mobile screens etc can cause major strain, blurriness, dry eyes, and head neck back aches. Follow the 20-20-20 rule (rest your eyes for 20 minutes by looking 20 feet ahead for 20 seconds) and keep your eyes strain free and healthy. Also you can use anti-glare lenses or screen, correct your posture and maintain a minimum distance between the screen and your eyes.
