Finding a new Hairstylist in a new City

Finding a new Hairstylist in a new City

So you are the “new girl in the city” ala Bollywood style. You have started to take a liking to this new city- your ouse starts looking beautiful, you start picking up a few of the local words. There is one small hitch. You miss your old special friend- your old hairstylist. How he/she always understood what you wanted without your having to be too articulate about it. You two had a bond.

Now that you have shifted here, you have no choice but to go and get a new hairstylist for yourself. But you are still struggling to find the sarvagun sampanna hairstylist- the one who understands your hair type and you, the one who has a clean parlour nearby and yet is well within your budget.

Fickar not, just read on to find out how:

  • Investigate:- Find out about the good hairstylists near you. Investigate about them. Ask neighbours, friends, their clients, read reviews. A much simpler way for this step would be to simply log on to http://www.themakeoverz.com/ . Shortlist a few salons.
  • Have a consultation with them:- Book for an appointment for consultation where you can go and talk to the hairstylist for about your lifestyle and your preferred hairstyles.
    A good hairstylist must:
  • take your lifestyle into account when suggesting a haircut.
  • respect your likes and dislikes.
  • have a thorough knowledge and expertise about type and length of hair.
  • Go for an experimental service:- After the consultation, go for a simpler service like a blowout, shampoo or trim. Try to gauge whether you like it or not. In case you do, how much? Would you come here in future?
Also check how is their service? Do they keep people waiting for little or no reason? Is the salon clean?
  • The pricing issue:- Do not go strictly by the price. Often relatively economic nukkar ke parlour can also give tough competition to their pricier and swankier counterparts. So do not try to stick to a salon even if it burns a hole in your pocket and is way out of your reach.
  • Shop around:- Now repeat steps 2 and 3 in all the shortlisted salons. See which one you like the best. Sometimes you have to shop around a little to get that perfect salon and hairdresser.
  • Your part:- Half of the responsibility to make a hairstyling session into a success lies on the shoulders of the end user. So do not get so wrapped up in the process of finding a new hairstylist and miss out the bigger picture.
Be the ideal candidate and you shall get good service:
Arrive on time:- You are at a new place looking for suitable people with whom you wish to forge long lasting relationship. Hairstylists have multiple appointments throughout the day and work on a very strict cycle. Do not break this cycle by arriving late. Chances are you would be getting a very rushed service which might prove to be misleading in the long run.
Give a clear picture of what you really want:- Ideally you should have done this during your consultation. In case you  have not done this ye,t now is a good time to give a summary to your hairstylist what all you actually want and how much styling you are willing to do every day.
Have reasonable expectations:- No one gets hair like Deepika Padukone everyday without any effort, TBH. Know and accept this.
Tip:- Tip well in case you are happy with the service. Not only do the hairstylists deserve this, this would pave the way for all those haircuts without appointments.

The new hairstylists might not be your new pal, but eventually you would get there.
So what do you think? Got any more tips for finding a new hairstylist?
